Maple & Jack Daniel’s Granola 🙂  My family loves granola. They’ll eat it all the time if it’s available to them. One thing that isn’t so fabulous about granola… is how darn expensive it is when you buy it pre made. It’s outrageous!! The bags are small too. With a family of 6, it’s just not a great buy. The other issue I have with store bought, is the amount of preservatives they put in it. If you buy organic the price is… well… forget about it!! So why not make your own? You get to add whatever ingredients YOU like. Don’t like almonds? Then substitute pecans! What about pumpkin seeds? Or your favorite fruit?? Anyways… you get my point. You can buy organic, gluten-free, thick cut, rolled oats in bulk! I love the bulk bins at our local Fred Meyer store. They have tons of options for oats, nuts, seeds, etc. I just buy bags of whatever suits my fancy in that moment, and get to it when I get home! They were also having a fabulous sale on Jack Daniel’s, so I decided to make Maple & Jack Daniel’s Granola. **I don’t like really sweet granola, and I also try to cut back on sugar wherever possible when feeding my kids. If you’d like yours sweeter, just bump up the maple syrup amount to your liking 🙂
- 6 cups, thick cut rolled oats, or old fashioned oats (I used organic, gluten-free)
- 2½ cups sliced almonds (these are much cheaper in the bulk section versus buying them prepackaged)
- ⅓ cup Jack Daniel's whiskey
- ¾ cup REAL maple syrup (not the flavored stuff!! I buy mine at Costco)
- 5 Tbs. butter, melted
- Preheat your oven to 225 degrees.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk the whiskey 🙂 syrup and melted butter together. Add the oats and almonds. Mix until well coated.
- Spread the oat mixture evenly onto a large baking pan or cookie sheet. Bake for 2-3 hours, or until golden brown. Let it cool completely before storing in an air tight container.
How will you eat yours?? I like to snack on it plain Jane, or in a parfait with fruit and yogurt!!! YUM!!
